Chelsea: 10 British Youngsters Who Deserve Their Chance At Stamford Bridge

10. Jamal Blackman (GK)

Starting our list from the back, Blackman has been hanging around the Chelsea first team squad as third or fourth choice goalkeeper for some time now, despite never being given an opportunity to get a game for himself - even when his competition consisted of Henrique Hilario and Ross Turnbull. Realistically, with Petr Cech as Chelsea's current No.1 and Thibault Courtois likely to take over in the near future, Blackman's chances of making the first choice shirt his own are miniscule to put it mildly. With current backup Mark Schwarzer in the twilight of his twilight years, however, Blackman at the very least deserves a few cup games to show he's got what it takes to hold down a supporting role at the club. He made his debut in a first team shirt in the 2012/2013 post-season tour of the USA, unlucky to come on in the midst of a Man City resurgence from 3-0 down to take the 4-3 win, but while he still has the slightly wobbly decision making of all inexperienced goalkeepers, came back strong after that chastening debut and demonstrated his ability with an outstanding save in this campaign's pre-season tour against Roma. While the goalkeeping position is arguably the most difficult one to entrust to an unproven youngster, especially when there's the world's foremost young keeping talent still on Chelsea's books in Courtois (currently on loan at Atlético Madrid), it would be a shame never to see the talented Blackman given his due in a competitive fixture. After all, isn't that what the league cup is for...?
