9. Todd Kane (RB)
A thoroughly modern full back whose primary instinct is to bomb forward down the right, Todd Kane's current loan spell with Blackburn has seen him establish himself as one of the few bright spots of troubled times at the Lancashire club. Managers may have come and gone, but Kane has held down his place through tenacity and consistency, earning him a deserved call-up to the England U-21 squad for the match against Scotland in August. He may not have managed to get on the field, but it was another positive step forward for a player who made the difficult move from youth team to competitive football look easy. While still a forward-thinking sort of player, Kane's success in adding defensive stability to his obvious attacking talents - seek out clips of some of the stonking long range efforts he scored as captain of the Chelsea reserves - has been key to his growth into one of the country's most promising young full-backs. He's got all the talent, mental strength and willingness to learn to make the step up to Premier League football, although whether he does so at Chelsea perhaps depends - ignoring Mourinho's refusal to trust any player whose transfer fee doesn't run into the millions - on the progress of 19-year old Wallace, currently enduring a difficult loan spell at Internazionale after signing for the Blues from Fluminense in 2013. Wallace and Kane share much in common, although the Brazilian comes with the benefits of a big reputation and being, well, Brazilian. In a perfect world, though, Kane has shown more than enough talent to deserve the chance to pull on the Blue shirt for real.
