Chelsea: 3 Reasons Why Rafael Benitez Should Never Have Joined

3. The Fans Never Wanted Him

opbenitez It's always going to be tough coming into a managerial job where the fans don't think too highly of you. On top of this, the man who Benitez was replacing had just won the Champions League for the first time in the club's history and the fan's loved him for this. There was outrage when Di Matteo was sacked and a lot of that rage was vented at Benitez in the form of booing. Another reason it was also going to be hard to win the fans over was, of course, he was at one of their rival's for a long period of time. Not only that but he had a fierce rivalry with Chelsea in the Champions League where he had knocked them out twice - Chelsea fans don't exactly love him for that. To make things worse, in previous years the Spaniard has also mocked the flags that the Stamford Bridge crowd wave in the stands. This is a very strong reason why Rafa should have never gone to Chelsea as he was always going to be on the back foot with the fans which adds a lot of pressure.
