Chelsea News: Marco Van Ginkel Out For Rest Of Season

Chelsea midfielder Marco Van Ginkel has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury, according to the Daily Mail. The 20-year-old sustained the injury against Swindon in the first half of their Capital One Cup clash on Tuesday night and tried to play on, but was replaced by Ramires before half-time. It was hoped that the injury was not serious, however, an MRI scan on Wednesday revealed the Netherlands international had torn his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and will play no further part for the Blues this season. Van Ginkel has been used sparingly by manager Jose Mourinho since signing him from Vitesse earlier this summer, clocking up only 11 minutes of league action so far this season. However, his season-ending injury will come as a blow with midfield colleague Ramires, who replaced Van Ginkel against Swindon, being forced off himself with a hip injury that looks set to rule him out against Spurs at the weekend. One player who this could be good news for is outcast Juan Mata. The Spain international completed his first 90 minutes of football of the season against Swindon and could earn a recall into Mourinho's first team for the visit to White Hart Lane on Saturday.
