Chelsea Transfer News: Blues To Bid £22 Million For Luka Modric?

The Sun. The Blues have long been linked with the player, and two years ago had a £40 million offer rejected by his former club Tottenham Hotspur, according to the same report. Modric only just signed a five-year contract at the Bernabeu last summer after moving from White Hart Lane, but Chelsea's resolve to sign the creative midfielder has been strengthened after they missed out on Metalist Kharkiv€™s Brazilian midfielder Taison, who yesterday snubbed the Blues for a move to Shakhtar Donetsk. The Croatian has endured a fairly tepid start to his career with Jose Mourinho's Real: in 24 appearances he has only scored once and that was back in November, and he has also only provided four assists so far. Madrid are also third in La Liga at present, 16 points adrift of leaders Barcelona, and according to the Sun, with Mourinho expected to move on at the end of the season, Chelsea's owner is ready to swoop. But he is still viewed by the Chelsea hierarchy as the right man to replace veteran midfielder Frank Lampard, who's contract expires in the summer. Along with teammate Ashley Cole, Lampard has been instructed to find a new club by the Blues and will not be offered a contract extension this summer. What do you think Chelsea fans?
