Chelsea Transfer News: Edinson Cavani Interest CONFIRMED!

Teamtalk.com, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that Chelsea are interested in signing Edinson Cavani this summer. Cavani, 26, has been linked with a summer move away from Napoli in recent weeks and despite the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City reportedly showing interest in the striker, Stamford Bridge looks his most likely destination. De Laurentiis has stated that he intends to keep the Uruguayan at the Stadio San Paolo but has promised that if a club meet Cavani€™s ‚63 million release clause then the entire fee will be re-invested back into the Italian side. De Laurentiis said:

"If Cavani is sold then I'll reinvest all of the ‚63million (£53.5m) of his release clause. There is interest from Chelsea in Cavani, they'll call me in the next few hours.€
He continued:
"I'll be delighted if he stays, but if he leaves then he will be adequately replaced.€
The Uruguay international has been in sensational form this season scoring 29 Serie A goals in 33 appearances for the Italian side, as well as netting seven Europa league goals in as many games. Despite Cavani's best efforts, Napoli finished runners-up in the 2012/13 Serie A, but the 26-year-old has tasted victory at Napoli by helping his side win the Coppa Italia in 2012. The future of the other Chelsea strikers is unclear but with Jose Mourinho confirming that Romelu Lukaku will not go back on loan, it is looking like Spaniard Fernando Torres could be leaving in the summer to make way for Cavani. With Jose Mourinho preparing to start his second spell at Chelsea, the club are being rumoured to be interested in a few of the top strikers in Europe, but with the interest confirmed in Cavani the rumours of Wayne Rooney or Cristiano Ronaldo joining Stamford Bridge this summer will more likely be dismissed.
