Chelsea Transfer News: Samuel Eto'o Officially Joins On One-Year Deal

according to the official club website. The 32-year-old, who has 112 caps for Cameroon, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal a day after the west London club completed the signing of Willian from the same side. Eto'o, a four time recipient of Africa's Player of the Year award, worked under Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Internazionale where the pair won the European Cup in 2011. Upon completing his move to Stamford Bridge, Eto'o expressed his delight at reuniting with 'The Special One': "I am very happy to be here but also anxious because I want to get playing as soon as possible. "It wasn't a hard decision. I saw the qualities Chelsea have, and I was very happy with Jose Mourinho before, so when the opportunity came, I was very happy to take it." The move sees the former Barcelona forward arrive for a fee believed to around £7 million, with his former club Anzhi paying him a handsome sum to sweeten the deal in an attempt to get him off their wage bill. Eto'o quickly became Mourinho's number one target after 'Plan A' to lure Wayne Rooney south failed, with the England forward now expected to commit his future to Manchester United. And with Demba Ba not in the Blues long term plans, they moved quickly to bolster their attacking options and to give them an alternative to both Romelu Lukaku and Fernando Torres up front. Despite scoring 23 goals in all competitions last season, the jury is still out on the Spaniard and Eto'o brings with him a goalscoring pedigree that saw him net 108 league goals during his time with Barcelona, a further 33 with Inter and 25 during a two year stay in Russia. This is not likely to be the end of Chelsea's summer recruitment drive with Christian Atsu of FC Porto widely expected to complete a £3.5m to the club in the coming days. Meanwhile, there could be departures before the end of the transfer window on Monday, with Victor Moses likely finding his immediate future lies away from the club. Eto'o, like Willian, will not be available for tomorrow's UEFA Super Cup game with Bayern Munich, with both likely to have to wait until Chelsea's trip to Everton on Saturday 14th September for their debuts.
