Chelsea Transfer News: Willian Signing Confirmed After Work Permit Granted

according to the club's official website. The 25-year old Brazilian was granted a work permit at his hearing earlier today, and has been unveiled by the west London club after completing his move from Anzhi Makhachkala. Last week it looked as if Willian - who only moved to Anzhi from Shakhtar Donetsk in January - would be on his way to Tottenham having successfully passed a medical, but Chelsea sensationally hijacked the proposed transfer for a fee believed to be £32 million. Tottenham were set to bring in the play-maker as a likely replacement for Gareth Bale who looks destined to be plying his trade at Real Madrid in the near future, and now must look to other targets which include Roma's Erik Lamela. However, upon completing his move to Chelsea Willian said: "I'm very happy to be here, it's been a dream of mine to come and play here." "Chelsea are one of the best clubs in the world, and now I'm going to play for one of the best managers in the world, so I'm very happy and looking forward to it." Blues supporters will be familiar with the player after he scored twice against the club while playing for Shakhtar in the group stages of last season's Champions League. Willian joins a host of attacking midfield options including Kevin De Bruyne, Andre Schurrle, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata who has been linked with a move away from Chelsea in recent weeks. While the most pressing need may in fact be a striker, this has left many to question whether Jose Mourinho's side really needed the player, and whether the decision to sign the talented attacker was only out of spite. Yet their attempts to bring in Wayne Rooney failed, leaving the club to press ahead with alternative targets, as they attempt to add to their squad ahead of the transfer deadline on September 2nd. The signing of Samuel Eto'o, also from Anzhi, is expected in the coming days and the arrival of Willian will add extra competition for places. Meanwhile, Victor Moses may find his future is away from the club with rumours of interest from Liverpool and Merseyside rivals Everton. The Brazilian international, who has two caps to his name, has been handed the number 22 shirt at his new club, and represents a major blow for Andre Villas-Boas whose Spurs side looked destined to sign him, only for Roman Abramovich to make some personal calls of his own. Chelsea fans may get their first glimpse of Willian in Friday's UEFA Super Cup game with Bayern Munich, although his Premier League bow will have to wait until at least September 14th.
