Chelsea Transfers: 10 Players Screwed By Blues' Ludicrous Transfer Policies

8. Gael Kakuta

The complete anonymity of Gael Kakuta since he signed for Chelsea in 2007 makes you wonder if their chase of the player was really worthwhile. And as it turns out, it really wasn't. Chelsea took Kakuta from French club Lens under a heavy cloud of controversy, ending up with a transfer ban issued to them by FIFA in 2009 for encouraging the player to break his contract and sign on at Stamford Bridge. Though eventually, the two clubs and Kakuta accepted that the player's contract with the French side was not valid, so Chelsea escaped the ban. With the drama over and the troubles in the past, surely Kakuta would have spurred on from that point and proven himself to be the 'future of Chelsea,' as former coach Carlo Ancelotti once called him? That didn't turn out to be the case. The biggest mark Kakuta made on Chelsea was the initial splash when he joined the club, with the French winger unable to find a way into the Blues' first team. Kakuta has instead been sent out on loan five times during his seven year stint at Chelsea, with much of the time spent with Vitesse. Kakuta spent the second half of last season with Lazio on loan, but failed to make any impression there either. Though still a Chelsea player, it won't be for much longer.
