Chelsea Transfers: 10 Players Screwed By Blues' Ludicrous Transfer Policies

9. Patrick Van Aanholt

Something of a forgotten man, Patrick van Aanholt eventually has made the move away from Stamford Bridge, joining Sunderland this summer after the Chelsea signing of Filipe Luis all but put paid to his hopes of cementing a first team place at left back. The Dutchman has already been capped by his country, but made his way into the national team having spent the last two and a half seasons at Chelsea's feeder club, Vitesse Arnhem, and his performances were impressive enough to warrant a call up into Louis van Gaal's 30 man preliminary squad for the World Cup, though he didn't make the final cut. At 23, the full back has plenty of time ahead of him but will now have to rebuild his career and look to establish himself as a Premier League left back at the Stadium of Light.

Van Aanholt played only eight times for Chelsea since signing in 2009 and also had loan spells at Wigan, Leicester, Newcastle and Coventry, in addition to his time spent back in the Eredivisie.
