3. Fabio Coentrao
Another option at left-back is Fabio Coentrao, the one-time Manchester United target who is very much out of favour at current club Real Madrid. The Portugal international has only made four La Liga appearances all season and just 16 in the 2012-13 campaign, and looks almost certain to leave in the New Year. Mourinho is familiar with Coentrao in that the two worked together during the "Special One's" stint at the Bernabeu, while the defender was one of only a handful of Madrid stars the temperamental boss didn't have a bust up with. As such, the Blues are weighing up the possibility of taking Coentrao
on loan in January, which would seem to suit all parties, as the defender would come a lot cheaper than other potential targets on this list. There would then be the option for the 25-year-old to make his stay permanent should he settle down and adapt to the English game.
