Luke Shaw has been one of the driving forces behind Southampton's unlikely successes this season and one of the reasons why they, until recently, maintained one of the best defensive records in Europe. The attack-minded left-back has put in some sterling performances this season to capture the attention of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, and command a market value of
£30 million. So impressive has Shaw been this season that it would take a British transfer record fee to persuade the Saints into selling their prized asset - but then, money is hardly an object for Chelsea or their billionaire owner Roman Abramovich. The Blues have been in for Shaw twice in the last two windows but have thus far failed to land their man, who, at 18, is considered one of the hottest properties in Europe. Like Rodriguez, Shaw's purchase would nail down left-back for years to come and give Chelsea a youthful base of which to build upon in the future.
