3. Luka Modric
Chelsea have been chasing Luka Modric
since 2011, but eventually gave up any hope of signing the then-Tottenham star when he moved to Real Madrid last year, apparently bringing to an end one of the most protracted transfer sagas in Blues' history. However, Modric has bombed in La Liga, and was voted
the worst signing of the season last December in a poll carried out on readers of Spanish newspaper
Marca. His short tenure in Spain looks almost certain to end in the summer, and could Chelsea finally land the Croatian having chased him for so long? Though he was a disappointment in La Liga, he made a name for himself as one of the Premier League's best midfielders during his spell at White Hart Lane, and a return to England would be appealing.
