3. Pepe
Another option, and perhaps an alternative to Raphael Varane if Mourinho fails to convince the youngster to join up with him at Stamford Bridge, is Pepe. With Varane making a real claim for the centre-back position at the Bernabeu, Pepe could find himself deemed surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital which may open the door for Chelsea to make a bid for the 30-year-old. Despite his age, there's little doubting the wealth of experience the two-time La Liga winner would bring to Jose Mourinho's side, while the Portugal international would add some grit to the Blue's back-line. Mourinho has been known to surround himself with Portuguese internationals after moving clubs, and did so during his first stint at Chelsea between 2004-07, buying the likes of Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira. And Pepe could become the latest Portuguese recruit at the West London club now that he is about to begin his second stint in charge.
