Chelsea Transfers: 5 Strikers Mourinho Needs To Cure Goal Drought

5. Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke put a host of clubs on alert this summer when he handed in a transfer request at Aston Villa, just a year after joining from Genk. Chelsea and their London rivals Tottenham were interested at the time, but both dramatically missed out when the Belgian international performed a sensational u-turn and signed a new deal at Villa Park. However, the lure of Champions League football is always a tempting one, and the possibility of playing for, and against some of Europe's elite players could be too tempting for Benteke to resist should the Blues come calling again. Villa aren't in Europe this season so the forward would not be cup-tied, and available to play for Chelsea in the latter stages of the Champions League in the New Year, which is a big bonus. However, the Blues would likely have to make an offer in excess of £35 million to secure Benteke's signature.
