Chelsea Transfers: 5 Strikers Mourinho Needs To Cure Goal Drought
4. Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea over the summer and was the subject of two bids from Jose Mourinho's side. The Blues were weighing up making a third offer, having previously failed with a £25 million attempt, but in the end abandoned their pursuits when it became clear Rooney wasn't prepared to force through a move away. However, they look set to try again for the England international in the New Year, and with his contract now entering its final 18 months, there are huge doubts as to where he will be playing his football next summer. Rooney has been one of United's stand-out performers in what has been an otherwise-dismal season so far for the champions, who would clearly be loath to sell to a direct rival, though may have little choice should their continuing slide in form make the former Everton man realise they can no longer compete for trophies.
