Chelsea Transfers: Roman Abramovich's Signings Worst XI

Right Midfielder: Shaun Wright-Phillips

497993910 D7ba0b594f O Shaun Wright-Phillips signed for Chelsea after showing so much potential at Manchester City, where he had been since the age of 17. Having scored on his England debut and gaining a reputation with his outstanding pace that would strike fear into any defence, it looked like Chelsea could had bagged themselves a real prospect as he signed for a fee of £21 million in July 2005. In the three seasons Wright-Phillips spent at Chelsea, he made 124 appearances for the club, although 60 of them were as a substitute and he didn't score his first goal for the Blues until December 2006. He struggled to settle at Chelsea and had his first team appearances limited, this culminated in him failing to get into Sven-Göran Eriksson's World Cup Squad in Germany. In his second and third seasons Wright-Phillips did manage to be a bit more prominent role in the Chelsea team but failed to make the match day squad for the 2008 UEFA Champions League final. However with Luiz Felipe Scolari appointed for the following season, the winger fell out of favour with the new man, leaving to return to Manchester City for £8.5 million. With the combination of the money spent on this player and the fact that he didn't appear frequent enough, it is no surprise that Shaun Wright-Phillips is on this team.
