Classy centre-back Nicklas Süle showed preternatural maturity in helping Hoffenheim achieve Champions League qualification for the first time in their history, so it was unsurprising when European giants Chelsea and Bayern Munich both swooped for the 21 year old this summer.

In the end, the promising defender chose Bavaria over west London, heading to the Allianz Arena alongside teammate Sebastian Ruddy. Still only 21, Süle's assured performances wowed pundits as the German Olympic team narrowly missed out on gold in Rio, and he has looked more than comfortable since making the step up to full senior level.

Possessing a composure and presence of mind which belie his tender years, the Frankfurter promises to be a key figure at the heart of the Germany defence for years to come, and the ConfedCup should afford Bayern fans a chance to see his capabilities against elite opposition.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
