5. Solomon Mire
Age: 25 Team: Zimbabwe Who: Big-hitting all-rounder and adopted Aussie A powerful ball striker and a pace-bowler with a strong, repeatable action, Zimbabwe's Solomon Mire is a young player with the potential to have a big future in the game. A man with only seven ODIs to his name so far, Mire has already hit two half-centuries in his fledgling international career and caught the eye with 2-39 versus the UAE at Nelson last week. Picked for his experience of playing in Australian conditions, he emigrated Down Under in 2012 and spent time playing club cricket in country Victoria before moving to Melbourne to play Premier Grade Cricket. He has played for both Carlton and Essendon as well as wintering up north in Darwin where he hit an incredible 21 sixes in a knock of 260 from 157 balls for Waratah's CC in July last year; a competition record. His performances for Essendon saw him receive State 2XI honours for Victoria and also earn a community rookie contract with Big Bash League outfit the Melbourne Renegades. He impressed in the run up to the World Cup with knocks of 68* and 39* versus a Northern Districts XI and also has brief experience of playing domestic cricket in Bangladesh for Mohammedan Sporting Club.
