Crystal Palace 0-1 Spurs: 5 Key Things We Learned

3. Spurs' New Signings Look Promising

Without setting the world alight, all four of Tottenham's new signings looked like they will be valuable assets this coming season. The most impressive performance came from Paulinho. The Brazilian earned himself the Man of the Match award with a composed, authoritative display. He was bullish in the tackle and his simple passing was effective without looking spectacular and he deserved the award. Roberto Soldado looked to be the target man Spurs have needed for so long and he topped off a promising first competitive game with the winning goal - a composed and perfectly placed penalty. Nacer Chadli looked keen and threatening. Eager to get the ball, composed in his passing and not afraid to shoot on sight, the Belgian provides Spurs with a creative outlet from the wings and a goal threat. Etienne Capoue showed in his appearance from the bench that Spurs have strength in depth now - literally - the man is a tank who looks as strong on the ball as Mousa Dembele and as tenacious as Sandro, whilst also having an eye for a pass. Palace's new signings made less of an impression, but there will be plenty of time for them to do that in the coming weeks.
