Crystal Palace Inevitably Appointing Malky Mackay (And Give Him £25m To Spend)
Bafflingly, the Scot will have money, after Pulis left over the club not spending...
After just under a week without a manager, it looks like Crystal Palace have a new man in charge. According to the Mirror's Ed Malyon, Palace are set to name former Cardiff manager Malky Mackay as their new boss ahead of their game against West Ham on Saturday. That puts an end to speculation that the likes of David Moyes and Tim Sherwood were about to replace the unjustly ousted saviour of the Eagles who worked nothing short of a miracle last year. https://twitter.com/eaamalyon/status/501703255773413376 It's not exactly a surprise to see the Scot named manager - as he surely will be - because of his close links to Sporting Director Iain Moody, and his apparent attempts to use Sir Alex Ferguson to convince Palace chairman Steve Parish to give him the job. He was the quick favourite last week, with odds as short as 4/1 being the longest you could likely have got, but it looks like Mackay has been given some assurances already that Pulis simply did not have, at least according to Malyon... https://twitter.com/eaamalyon/status/501706049137545216 If it's true that Mackay is set to be given £25m, that surely begs the question of why there was so much friction in Pulis' relationship with Parish. The most widely accepted theory is that it was the club's approach to transfers - and Parish's reluctance to spend much to build on Palace's position from last year, but if Mackay has £25m to spend that would surely seem an odd suggestion. Either Palace are willing to spend money or they're not. The news has been picked up elsewhere, with betting now suspended on Mackay taking over at Palace... https://twitter.com/SkySportsPeteO/status/501722668518088704 It's all terribly odd - particularly if the transfer kitty rumours are to be believed - but then Malyon's announcement does come with the stinger that Moody will have more involvement in signings, which presumably could be the sticking point for Pulis. Perhaps Parish didn't have faith in Pulis pulling the transfer strings, and wanted Moody to be the lead? Clearly, where Pulis was not content, Mackay is, even having worked with one notoriously terrible owner at Cardiff City - but then, after that situation, working for anyone else probably looks like a dance through the poppy fields.
