Dutch International 'To Sign 4-Year Deal At Newcastle'
It looks like Newcastle will get one 'over the line' early in this transfer window...
One of Newcastle United's preferred media partners, the Daily Mirror, are this morning reporting that Newcastle United will complete a deal for Holland striker Bas Dost. The Wolfsburg man, who scored 16 Bundesliga goals last season, has reportedly been the subject of a £9 million bid from The Magpies and is ready to sign a four-year deal. The 26-year-old added four more goals to his tally last term in other competitions, which included a crucial goal in Die Wölfe's German Cup Final win over Borussia Dortmund. In fact, he went on an astonishing run of form at one stage which saw him net 14 goals in just nine games, four of them in a 5-4 win over Bayer Leverkusen. Dost is certainly a man on the rise in terms of European football as his form last season jolted him into the Dutch national team picture in March, where he picked up his first two caps. Should Newcastle complete a deal they will have beaten off competition from a pack of Premier League clubs, which reportedly included Southampton. He is something that Newcastle have been screaming out for since the departure of Andy Carroll in 2011. Standing at 6 foot 5 inches, Dost will finally (surely) add a much needed aerial threat from set pieces. Dost started his career at FC Emmen in 2007, scoring six goals in 23 league games. He was then transferred to Heracles Almelo a year later where he netted 17 in 61, before notching an incredible 45 goals in 66 league games for Heerenveen. He signed for Wolfsburg in 2012 and has scored 28 goals in 62 league games to date.
