England: 6 Players Who Need To Be Given A Chance Against Denmark
6. Fraser Forster
There's no doubt about it, England have a goalkeeping issue. Man City keeper Joe Hart has largely recovered from his hugely shaky early season form, which is reassuring for fans in the build up to the World Cup, but what we did learn from that period was the major lack of other options for the national team. The security of Hart's place in the team had been viewed as a good thing, an opportunity to build the young goalkeeper's confidence and build a settled first 11 from the back. However, a loss of form like we saw from Hart earlier this year or an injury or suspension to the anti-dandruff spokesman would leave England without an experienced alternative to call on. West Brom's Ben Foster has picked up just 6 caps over a spread of 7 years and yet remains the most capped deputy in Hodgson's squad. The other options, Norwich's John Ruddy and Celtic's Fraser Forster have only one appearance apiece. The Denmark game is the perfect opportunity to let one of them have a further chance to prove themselves. Forster is hampered by being the only player from the squad not to play in England (although Jermain Defoe is leaving for Toronto this week) and for appearing in the less impressive Scottish Premier League. However, consistently strong performances in the Champions League mark him as one to watch and suggest that he needs to be given the chance to challenge Hart for the number 1 spot.
