bowling average of 21.24. In the future I can see there will be many debates among the pundits as to who was better, Laker or Swann. Laker's supporters certainly have a case for him being England's greatest ever spin bowler. His career highlight came in an Ashes test match at Old Trafford in 1956, where he had match figures of
19-90. No other bowler had taken more than 17 wickets in a match, showing Lakers sheer dominance at that time. That impressive performance, alongside others, helped him on his way to being voted Sports Personality of the Year in 1956.
