England's Best Ever Ashes Players

5. Michael Vaughan

Another Yorkshireman on the list! Vaughan played 82 tests for England with a batting average of 41.44, predominately batting at no.3. Although his form with the bat sometimes dipped, ever since being made captain, he was a solid tactician and certainly a man of the people. In charge of a solid England team in 2005, Vaughan became the first England captain to win an Ashes series since Mike Gatting in 1986-87. It was a tremendous win for England against a strong Australian team, including the likes of Warne and McGrath. Vaughans captaincy in that series alone is worthy of a top 5 spot!
