Everton 1-2 Swansea City – 6 Things We Learned

6. John Stones Is Feeling The Pressure

John Stones is widely considered one of Everton and England€™s brightest defensive prospects, and there are signs that the young centre-half is starting to feel the pressure. Stones was criticised for the risky, Maradona-esque turns he performed inside his own box during Everton€™s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, and his daredevil style of play was the catalyst that triggered Swansea€™s opening goal. The apparent Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea target€™s woeful backpass sent Ayew clean through on goal and left Howard with no choice but to commit himself, resulting in the penalty kick that shattered the deadlock. Stones was again in the thick of the action when Swansea netted their second, Ayew€™s shot taking a wicked deflection off the defender on its way beyond Howard. Is it time Martinez took the youngster out of the firing line?
