Everton: 5 Reasons Moyes' Men Deserve Champions League Football

3. Money

Bill Kenwright

Everton are skint, very skint calling them poor is too much of an understatement for years they have been low on funds to compete with the best in the league. They spent years trying to get a bigger ground with no success and Bill Kenwright has also had no luck in searching for new owners and new investment for the Toffees.

Everton have never been in any real threat of administration but compared to the teams around them they just don€™t have the same resources. They can€™t go after top players or give out big wages and they certainly can€™t outbid many teams for a talented player. Most of Everton€™s transfers either come from signing players from the lower leagues or going to their own youth academy for talent and they have had some good success in both those areas.

They badly need investment though if they ever want to stay as a top 6 team and the Champions League is where most of the big pay-outs in football are. If they got in a draw some big European names then that would bring in massive revenue for the club not just in TV but in getting the Everton name and brand out there in wider footballing circles. A superstar match with the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona would certainly bring in the funds that Everton desperately need.

Everton have had decent runs in the Europa League but the money, fame and the chance to grow out their normally shoestring budget would be such a boost for Everton€™s fans, players and manager. The Champions League really does boost the profile of a club beyond money, look at the likes of Spurs and Celtic how their recent good runs in the competition changed the way they were viewed by other football fans. So it wouldn€™t all be about the money but the rich prize of European football could really improve Everton€™s poor financial standings.
