Everton Transfers: 4 Replacements For Nikica Jelavic

4. John Guidetti - Man City

In my previous article €“ 6 Premier League Players To Look Out For In 2014 €“ I suggested that striker John Guidetti could be one of the surprise stars of 2014 if he could secure a loan move away from Manchester City. Everton could replicate their successful loan of Romelu Lukaku with the loan signing of John Guidetti. Lukaku and Guidetti are quite similar. Both are young, promising strikers struggling for opportunities at their parent club due to their riches and squad resources. Lukaku€™s loan move to Everton has been beneficial for both Everton and Chelsea. Everton have a great striker in their side for a year and Chelsea will be getting a much improved and Premier League-ready Romelu Lukaku back in the summer. Another bonus to his loan move for Chelsea is that Lukaku will help Everton take points off Chelsea€™s rivals but he is unable to play against Chelsea. An Everton loan move for Guidetti could have a very similar impact. A possible drawback to replacing Jelavic with Guidetti on loan is that it is a short-term solution. Everton have let Jelavic go permanently and if they replace him with Guidetti until the end of the season, they will have to strengthen up front again in the summer. Although buying in the summer tends to be easier than buying in January so loaning Guidetti could be a good solution. An even better solution might be buying Guidetti outright using the money they receive for Jelavic. Although I think Manchester City won€™t want to let him go permanently before seeing what he can do in the Premier League and I would think Everton would want to try him out before spending substantial money on him. There is no doubting Guidetti€™s talent and potential. The Swedish striker spent the 2011/12 season on loan at Dutch club Feyenoord scoring 20 goals in just 23 appearances, and making a name for himself as a talent to watch. But since then he hasn't had the chance to add to that impressive start to his career. Guidetti and Lukaku are in a similar position in their careers and they are also quite similar players. They are both big and strong and can finish chances. Like Lukaku, Guidetti has the stature and attributes to play up front on his own so he could be the perfect player to rotate with Lukaku when the Belgian looks tired, which he has at times this season.
