Everton’s 2004/05 Champions League Qualifying Squad – Where Are They Now?
25. Nigel Martyn
Moyes once hailed veteran goalkeeper Nigel Martyn as his greatest signing and - although he has tough competition from the likes of Cahill - the experienced shot stoppers valiant performances during the 2004-05 season prove that hes up there, at least. The former Leeds United man was recruited as backup for Richard Wright, but he made the gloves his own after an injury to Evertons first-choice stopper handed him some gametime. Despite being 38, which is like 105 for a footballer, Big Nige shone throughout the campaign, producing the form of his career in the latter half of the season to help maintain Evertons Champions League push in the wake of Gravesens exit. Martyn has dabbled in media work and coaching - most recently at Bradford City - since calling time on his playing career, but can usually be found enjoying the good life with his family on the south coast.
