Every Premier League Man Utd No.7 Ranked Worst To Best

5. Michael Owen

Better known now for his utterly dreary punditry and twitter spats with Alan Shearer, it’s easy to forget that Michael Owen was once a world-class striker and Ballon d’Or winner. But those days were long behind him by the time he rocked up at Old Trafford.

A prolific player for Liverpool and England in his prime, a mixture of recurring injuries and ill-fated moves to Real Madrid and Newcastle United, significantly lowered his stock and following the Magpies’ relegation in 2009, he moved on a free to United.

He was nothing more than an impact sub during his three seasons in Manchester but despite spending more time on the physio table rather than on the pitch, he still netted a respectable 17 goals including a stoppage time winner in the Manchester Derby and the opener in United’s League Cup final victory, against Aston Villa, in 2010.

Overall a very underwhelming No.7 for the Red Devils but at the end of the day he didn’t cost United a penny, scored some important goals and by signing for the club in the first place, he rubbed Liverpool fans up the wrong way, which is never a bad thing in United fans’ eyes.
