Most Expensive Spurs XI That Failed To Deliver

2. Roberto Soldado (£26 Million)

Like both Erik Lamela and Paulinho before him on this list, Roberto Soldado was Spurs' record signing for a period last summer, as he arrived from Valencia for £26 million. Like both Erik Lamela and Pauilinho, he had a very disappointing first season. He scored just six Premier League goals - only two of which came from open play, as he scored four penalties - and really struggled to adapt to English football (perhaps thanks to being played as a lone frontman, which doesn't suit his style of play). In terms of the future, he kind of falls between Lamela and Paulinho. While Lamela is expected to go on to shine and Paulinho's days at the club seem somewhat numbered, the jury is still out with Soldado. He appears to be in the manager's plans for the time being, but isn't starting and needs to come good quick if he is to make it at Spurs or be truly branded a flop.
