Most Expensive Spurs XI That Failed To Deliver

5. Paulinho (£17 Million)

Like Erik Lamela, Paulinho was Spurs' record signing last summer - albeit only for a brief amount of time - when he joined from Corinthians in his homeland of Brazil for £17 million. While showing some encouraging signs - contributing a couple of goals and performing particularly well in the odd games, such as the one at Stoke City - that fee seems to be far too much. More often than not, Paulinho was very underwhelming and massively failing to live up to his billing of "Tottenham's Frank Lampard". He had a terrible World Cup with Brazil and was singled out for criticism by his own fans and, in contrast to Lamela, he doesn't seem to be showing any signs of improvement this season and isn't in Mauricio Pochettino's first choice eleven.
