F1 2013 Season Finale: 5 Reasons Why The Brazilian Grand Prix Is A Must-See Race

5. Felipe Massa€™s Last Race With Ferrari

Massa The Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday will see local hero Felipe Massa drive his last race for Scuderia Ferrari. Massa€™s relationship with Ferrari stems back more than a decade, as his first season in 2002 with Sauber saw him drive a Ferrari powered car. Though not making much of a name for himself in the 2002 season, Felipe joined Ferrari as a test driver in 2003, and after 2 years at the Swiss Sauber team, he joined Ferrari once again as a race driver in 2006. Paired with the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, Massa impressed on his debut with the Italian outfit, achieving his first podium at the Nurburgring and scoring his maiden win at the Turkish Grand Prix. Massa€™s second race win took place at the Sao Paulo circuit, becoming the first Brazilian driver to win his home race since the legendary Ayrton Senna in 1993. Felipe Massa enjoyed two more successful years at Ferrari between 2007 €“ 2008, and missed out on winning the driver€™s world championship by a single point as Lewis Hamilton won the 2008 title on the last corner, of the last lap, of the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix. In 2009, Massa was injured in a freak accident in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, and his subsequent injury saw him miss the rest of the season. He returned in 2010, only to be forced to play second-fiddle to team mate Fernando Alonso. Massa€™s career from 2010 €“ 2012 seemed to be on a downward spiral, but a run of podiums since the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix have seen him return as a competitive front-runner. This weekend, he will race his last grand prix as a Ferrari driver, having signed a deal to drive for Williams in 2014. His last home grand prix, with a team he has been with since 2006, will be an emotional one; but Felipe Massa will surely go out on a bang and seek to impress the home crowd.
