Fantasy Football: 10 Players Who Are Ruining Everyone's Teams

5. Jack Wilshere

The Expectation Thanks to the hyperbole attached to "England's New Best Player," fans around the country could have been forgiven for adding Wilshere to their line-ups. With a value of £6.4 (not far off points-scorers like Hatem Ben Arfa and Kevin Nolan) the suggestion is that the game thinks Wilshere will score points, even though he managed just 944 last year in Metro's Fantasy Football league (very nearly just a third of Giroud's score.) So why is he being valued as highly? It must be expectation levels assuming he'll have a big season that will affect his points tally. The Problem Wilshere has a grand total of 2 points so far this season, from his 3 starts for Arsenal, and while his star remains in the ascendancy in the media and with commentators alike, it's unlikely that Wilshere is going to rack up a score that reflects how highly rated he is. The problem for fantasy football pickers is that Wilshere looks like a good prospect, especially when you consider the priase from compatriots like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, and his managers, but he doesn't actually deliver where it counts. He would be an emotionally influenced pick who wouldn't actually score many points (despite the kind of value in the game that suggests he would score points.) Last year he managed six assists in the league last year, without scoring a goal, and with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla playing in the high positions in Arsenal's midfield, chances are that number will go down further, without a reflection in his Fantasy Football price.
