8. Wolves Win At The Etihad
Given the amazing season they went on to have, Wolves winning 2-0 away to Manchester City doesn’t resonate with quite the same shockwaves now as it did at the time. But in Gameweek 8, this was a big deal.
Wolves had not had a great start to the season, winning just one of their first seven games and many were wondering whether their squad was being stretched too thin with Europa League commitments.
Meanwhile Manchester City were riding high, winning five of their opening seven fixtures and scoring 27 goals in those matches.
On the day, it was Wolves’ hero from the previous season Raúl Jiménez who assisted both goals, which were scored by the team’s new hot property and football’s equivalent of Scott Steiner - Adama Traore.
The game showed two themes which would become commonplace throughout the season: Manchester City’s defensive frailties with Aymeric Laporte out injured, and also the excellent partnership that Traore and Jiménez formed as Wolves pushed their way into European contention once more and into our Fantasy Football teams too.
