Fantasy Premier League 19/20: 10 Season-Defining Moments
7. Klopp Roulette
The title had already long been wrapped up by Liverpool by the time Gameweek 38 finally rolled around on July 26 after the longest Premier League season in history.
But as any FPL manager worth his salt will tell you, Gameweek 38 is probably the most important day of the season. All 10 fixtures kick off simultaneously, and there are often plenty of goals and plenty of rotation. All the while it is the day when Fantasy Football Mini Leagues are won and lost, cash prizes awarded, and those all-important bragging rights earned.
It can also be the difference between winning the ultimate prize and falling just short – just ask Chris McGowan.
Chris was Number 1 in the world heading in to Gameweek 38. He had his Triple Captain chip still to play. He opted to use the chip on Mohammed Salah, who was all set to face a Newcastle defence rocked by injuries.
While everyone had been panicking about Pep Roulette at Manchester City, on the final day it was Jurgen Klopp whose team selection caught almost everyone out as he benched Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In the end Salah came on as a sub to score just one point, and Chris McGowan unfortunately dropped from first to second in the overall in the rankings while Joshua Bull went on to be crowned the FPL champion for 2019/20.
