Fantasy Premier League 19/20: 10 Season-Defining Moments
9. Kevin De Bruyne Sets The Bar
It was hard to pick just one moment from Kevin De Bruyne’s sublime season in which he scored 13 goals, bagged a Premier League record-equalling 23 assists, and more importantly brought home many juicy FPL points.
But it was this game against Tottenham in Gameweek 2 where KDB showed that he was going to be one of the must-own players for the season.
The Belgian playmaker was priced at a generous £9.5m, but some managers were initially hesitant to bring him in given he had been injured for much of the previous season, and were wary of the rotation conundrum that is Pep Roulette.
While KDB came away with seven points in City’s rampant opening game win against West Ham, it was his teammate Raheem Sterling who grabbed the headlines having scored a hattrick. But in a potentially tricky game at home to Tottenham which finished 2-2, De Bruyne walked away with two assists and three bonus points, and was brought in by 460,000 managers the following week.
He became an almost nailed-on asset for Manchester City, starting 32 of their 38 Premier League games, and his price this season went as high as £10.8m.
He would go on to finish as the highest points scorer of any player in FPL this season - but this was where he first really made his case to be considered a must-own player.
