Fantasy Premier League Tips: 10 Best Pound For Points Strikers

9. Dwight Gayle (Newcastle) - £6.5m

Newcastle United's Dwight Gayle is coming off the most prolific season of his career. He didn't finish as the Championship's top scorer, but he did average a goal every 93 minutes, finishing with 23 strikes from 32 appearances. When fit, the former Crystal Palace man was absolutely lethal, and he'll almost certainly lead the Magpies' line again this season.

There's obviously no guarantee he'll be able to repeat these exploits in the Premier League, but while Gayle hasn't exactly shone in previous top flight campaigns, there's more to his record than meets the eye. He was never a first choice at Crystal Palace, and his 15 goals from 64 games makes for modest reading, but he rarely completed the full 90. Divide his goals scored by total minutes on the pitch, and he averages a strike every 183 mins.

That's an extremely encouraging stat, and for just £6.5m, Gayle could be one of Fantasy's biggest bargains in 2017-18. Newcastle will likely target another forward before the transfer window closes, but Gayle should still get game time, and his track record suggests he'll succeed when called upon.
