Fantasy Premier League Tips: 17 Best Opening Day Performances Analysed

14. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) - 8 points

Few would have had wagered too much on Wayne Rooney being among the highest scorers on Day 1. Considering the English international played a mere 29 minutes, and came on for winger Ryan Giggs, it's a credit to his star quality that he mustered 2 assists and a bonus point from the match. Whether you buy him or not before his future and/or starting place are secure is another matter entirely. With rumours abound he'll be at Chelsea soon, you may want to keep hold of your £10.5 million yet; or at least until September, when rumours of his departure will be at the very least diminished. He'll need a regular starting place as well, although on the evidence of Saturday, that shouldn't be too hard to find for him!

13. Brede Hangeland (Fulham) - 9 points

Hangeland has been a consistent favourite with Fantasy managers, as he always delivers a decent points tally at a relatively modest price. This year has started no different, with the reliable centre-half nabbing 3 bonus points and a clean sheet on his opening day out. Hangeland can be good for a goal or two; he hit 6 back in 2010/11. However, as a result, he's the most expensive Fulham defender at £5 million despite not scoring last season. Take the advice, follow the playing trends, and pick someone cheaper if it's a Fulham defender you're after.
