Fantasy Premier League Tips: 3 Liverpool Players You Should Sign
2. Martin Škrtel - £6 Million
The Slovakian centre back has become an integral part of the Liverpool team since his transfer to Merseyside in 2008, and was one of their most prolific goal scorers in the past couple of campaigns. Sure, a lot of those howlers might have been own goals, but you have to admit he shows spirit. When he joined the team then-gaffer Rafael Benitez spoke highly of Skrtel, opining that "he is aggressive, quick, is good in the air and I think he's a very good player for the future and also for the present. He is very competitive, but his mentality for me is very good". Benitez was right in a number of ways: all those things are still true, his mentality - if not his heading skills - is still strong, and he's kept it up, too. In fact if you take a look at his history in the fantasy league, he's gone from strength to strength. After a slightly iffy 2012/13 campaign where he only managed 88 points and was dropped from the team after a number of particularly bad plays (don't talk to us about that back pass during the Man City game) he was back on top last year, managing to rack up 137 points owing to a respectable number of goals scored and clean sheets he played. All that and more, yours for a cool £6 million. Let's just hope he manages to keep his number of bookings down...
