Felipe Massa’s 5 Greatest Ferrari Moments

1. Brazil 2008 - So Close

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsLX2Uen2dc In one of the most incredible finishes to any Formula 1 championship in the history of the sport, the title changed hands on the final corner of the race. Just like in 2006, Felipe Massa drove a flawless race from the front, taking another pole position and fastest lap in the race. He managed things perfectly, pitting to change to intermediate tyres as rain started to fall with seven laps to go and leading home Fernando Alonso, as he did in 2006, by over 13 seconds. In order to win the title, he needed Hamilton to finish outside the top five. Only starting fourth, and with a fundamentally average drive, Hamilton let fifth place slip to Vettel, then of Torro Rosso, with just a few laps to go. In the final three laps he chased Vettel but was unable to pass him, lacking the grip of the young German. It came down to Timo Glock, driving for Toyota, who had elected to stay out on slick tyres rather than pit as a gamble for points. At first it wasn't too wet, but as the rain came down more on the final lap Glock struggled, losing 15 seconds to Vettel and Hamilton in the final lap of the race, and being overtaken by both on the final corner. The last corner, of the last race, is what it took to decide the title, in the most incredible turn of events. Hamilton got fifth, just barely doing enough to win the title by a single point. It was hugely disappointing for Felipe and his family, who momentarily thought he had won it, as did the deafening home crowd. Felipe delivered everything, but on that day it could not be his. With his six wins to Hamilton's five, Massa was just as deserving of the title in 2008, if not more so in some ways. Without a doubt, the engine failure in Hungary when he did everything so perfectly took another win and a championship winning ten points from him. Also, in Singapore when leading, a Ferrari mistake in a rushed pit stop cost him any chance of points, which was all brought about by Renault's cheating in the "crash-gate" scandal, where compatriot Nelson Piquet Jr. deliberately crashed his car to cause a safety car so that teammate Alonso could win. The engine could be put down to F1, it happens, but the cheating should never be, and these combined to cost him what should have been a thoroughly deserved title, as he said so himself later. This race and heartbreaking, bittersweet moment showed all of Felipe's talent; his raw speed, control and focus under pressure. His immense passion was evident as it streamed down his cheeks, closing his greatest season in F1 and defining him as the best Brazilian driver since the legendary Senna.
