Former England International Set To Sign Permanent Deal For League One Club
Joe Cole wants Coventry City move...
Joe Cole is set to make his loan move from Aston Villa to Coventry City permanent by the end of the week, The Independent reports. The midfielder has been on loan at the Ricoh Arena since October, but is keen to make the move from the Barclays Premier League to League One a full-time one. Coventry manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed that Cole will need to take a pay cut if he wants the deal to happen, he said: "I think the player will help us but there's a number of discussions to be had, not just with our football club and the clubs concerned. "There's no way we could pay similar sorts of salary levels so they'll have discussions with their parent clubs and after that, we need to have discussions with their advisors. So there's lots of stuff to be talked about." Should Cole refuse to take the hit of a wage decrease, numerous reports have suggested that Villa could subsidise part of his wage packet to push the deal through. The 56-cap England international made just 12 appearances for The Villains after signing on a free transfer from West Ham in June 2014. The 34-year-old will have been hoping for another chance in the big time when Remi Garde replaced Sherwood in November, but it seems that the former Lyon manager has taken a similar stance to his predecessor. Former Chelsea and Liverpool man Cole has been integral to The Sky Blue's push towards the top of League One. Tony Mowbray's men currently sit just four points behind leaders Burton Albion.
