Malaga and former Holland international striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy, has decided to retire at the age of 35. Ruud van Nistelrooy began his career at Den Bosch, a team in Holland, where he scored 17 goals in 69 appearances for the club. Four years later he moved to Heerenveen where he managed 13 goals in 31 games. Spending only one season at Heerenveen, he then moved to PSV Eindhoven for a fee of 6.3 million euros. He spent three years at the Dutch club scoring 62 goals in 67 appearances, breaking a record as well as winning the Dutch League twice. His impressive performances made him a 2000 summer target for all clubs, but after paying £19 million Manchester United secured his services. Van Nistelrooy broke a record in his first season by scoring in eight consecutive league games. He accrued 23 goals in 32 games and was voted the PFA Players' Player of the Year. Van Nistelrooy played for Manchester United for five years and scored 95 goals in 150 appearances during his time at the club. In 2006, he was on the move again when Spanish giants Real Madrid bought him for 24 million euros. He continued his impressive scoring record by scoring 46 goals in 68 appearances during his four year stay. After spending a year at Hamburger SV and then a year at Malaga Van Nistelrooy decided to retire from football. The 35-year-old retires having scored 249 goals for his various clubs, with a further 35 efforts finding the back of the net while playing for the Netherlands. It is unclear whether he will go into coaching at the moment, but for now it looks like the veteran striker will take time away from football and have a well-deserved rest. What are your best memories of Ruud Van Nistelrooy? What was your favourite goal?
