2. Back in America
A small point, but F1 has to be in America, and a debut of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, is firmly welcomed. The US fans love their motor racing and always turned out in their numbers at Indianapolis, although the track was not ideal for F1 Racing given it was converted from an Oval layout. The Circuit of the Americas is bespoke for F1 and will surely bring yet more exciting racing. There was talk of Canada losing their place on the calendar but yet another fantastic race in Montreal put pay to that, to the fans delight. 1. Controversy
Where would F1 be without a bit of controversy? The most recent case was this past weekend with Red Bull under investigation for their engine mapping, but most of the stewards time has been taken with viewing the action on the track. Illegal pit stops are nothing new but the rules on overtaking were, and they were adjusted ahead of the recent German GP after incidents in Bahrain where Nico Rosberg ran Hamilton and Alonso off the track as they tried to overtake. The line between a legal block and an illegal move is very fine. The stewards have also had to deal with Pastor Maldonado on several occasions after driving described as dangerous and without respect by Sergio Perez after their collision at Silverstone. Maldonado has also taken out Hamilton, amongst others, and crashed out in Australia. Button has been involved in a few incidents, but benefitted from the stewards decision to penalise Vettel for his overtaking move at Hockenheim when he was deemed to have left the track. All in all its been a fantastic season so far, and definitely a contender for the best F1 season ever!
