Fulham 0-3 Southampton: 5 Things We Learned

2. Lallana, Lambert & Rodriguez Could Well Be Off To Brazil

As the third goal hit the back of the net against Fulham, the Southampton fans instantly broke into a chorus of "we are off to Brazil". While many of the Saints faithful could be heading to South America to watch the World Cup, the chant was about the club's plethora of English talent. All three of the goal scorers for Southampton were England internationals and the trio will certainly have aspirations of making Roy Hodgson's 23 man squad. Judging on their showings yesterday, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez all have a strong cases for selection. Lallana was perhaps the most impressive of the England hopefuls. The Saints skipper's movement was almost ghost like against Fulham, drifting in and around the back four, finding pocket of spaces and causing the hosts numerous headaches. Lambert, who was returning from an injury lay off, also reminded everyone why he is a strong candidate to be on the plane to Brazil. The 31-year-old was integral in the 3-0 victory, scoring and providing two assists for his team's cause. Rodriguez's goal was undeniably the pick of the bunch. The former Burnley player curled a sublime effort into the top corner, giving Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg no chance. With Brazil only month's away and Hodgson in the stands for Southampton's win, there is a strong belief that the trio could be on the plane to the World Cup. If Saturday's showing is anything to go by, then it seems like a good decision.
