Gus Poyet New Sunderland Manager: 5 Things Black Cats Fans Can Expect

3. A Change In Policy From Ellis Short

Since Ricky Sbragia took charge in 2008, Steve Bruce, Eric Black, Martin O'Neil, Paolo Di Canio and now Gus Poyet have been appointed as Sunderland boss. That's six managers in just five years. Of which, only one has lasted for more than two years, and that was Bruce, June '09 - November '11. There simply has to be more patience afforded by owner Ellis Short, who has been going through managers at a similar rate to Roman Abramovich over at Chelsea. There has to be a change in policy that sees managers given more time at the Stadium of Light. That Di Canio lasted for a mere 13 games is ridiculous - like him or not. (And many don't). Poyet was given four years at Brighton & Hove Albion and almost got them promoted twice, taking them up from League One before reaching the Championship Play-Off semi-final back in May. And that is proof good things happen when you stick with someone for long enough.
