Gus Poyet New Sunderland Manager: 5 Things Black Cats Fans Can Expect
4. No Quick Fix
Things won't be easy for Gus Poyet when he officially takes charge in two weeks. His opening five games are against Swansea (A), Newcastle (H), Southampton (H), Hull (A) and Man City (H). While three of those five fixtures are at home, the Black Cats have hardly made the Stadium of Light a fortress in recent times, winning just two games on home soil since the 1-0 win over Everton on April 20. In Swansea, they face a team who have beaten Valencia 3-0 this term, while the game against Newcastle needs no further introduction. In Southampton they take on one of the Premier League's form teams, with the Saints boasting the best defensive record in the topflight, while Hull have beaten the likes of Newcastle and West Ham this season. Then there's the game against Man City, in which the Black Cats could find themselves on the receiving end of a thumping if they're not careful. There will be no quick fix at Sunderland and fans shouldn't expect Poyet to reverse the club's fortunes immediately. More patience needs to be afforded to him that there was Di Canio.
