How A World Football XI Might Look In 5 Years Time

Centre-Back- RAPHAEL VARANE

Varane is already an absolute colossus of a centre-back, and there is certainly an argument to say there are not many defenders on the planet better than him already. He has been tipped by so many people to become one of the finest defenders of the last 20 years, and unlike some players who get overhyped, the Frenchman really does look the real deal. The 21-year-old is a towering presence, but his tall frame doesn't stop him from being incredibly quick. In Real Madrid's recent Champions League clash with Liverpool, Varane ate up the ground on the speedy Lazar Markovic with ease. It really was quite something. He also reads the game brilliantly and is dominant in the air. The former Lens player has a certain aura about him already, and despite some injury problems and initially struggling to replace the preferred Madrid duo of Sergio Ramos and Pepe, he is slowly but surely becoming a regular. You never want to go too over the top about a player at such a tender age, but if Varane isn't considered the best centre-back in the world in five years, it will be a big surprise.
