If Newcastle Show Transfer Ambition Then Yohan Cabaye Would Return "Without A Doubt"

Newcastle United supporters would love nothing more than to see Yohan Cabaye pull on a black-and-white shirt once more - and Olivier Bernard believes it is a realistic possibility should the Magpies show the "ambition to win" and recruit well this summer. Cabaye departed Tyneside in January 2014 to join Paris Saint-Germain in a £20 million deal and he has claimed two Ligue 1 titles since, though his playing time has become restricted. As a result, the Frenchman is looking to leave the Parc des Princes for first-team football so he can represent his country to Euro 2016 in his home nation - and columnist Bernard told the Chronicle that a return to St James' Park is a very-real possibility for Cabaye.

A reunion with Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace looks like the most likely destination for Cabaye, although West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and others also remain interested. But Bernard is adamant that, if the Magpies buck up their ideas in the transfer market, then Cabaye could be plying his trade at St James' Park once more. He said:

"Yohan Cabaye would come back (to Newcastle) if the team was right and we had the ambition to win things and challenge rather than the business ambition we have at the moment. "I think he would come back to Newcastle United, without a shadow of a doubt. "So far though he would probably look at it and not be quite so sure. I can guarantee he won't be the first signing, he would want to see what's coming. "He needs to make sure that he goes to the right club, not one that is losing every week, because he wants to be involved for France at Euro 2016."

Cabaye left the Magpies for PSG in January 2014 for £20 million and the Ligue 1 champions hope to recruit half of that sum in a permanent sale of the 38-cap France international midfielder. Aston Villa, Tottenham, Southampton and Palace, who are managed by former Magpies boss Alan Pardew, are all said to be willing to match such a fee - and Cabaye has made it clear he wants to return to the Premier League in search of first-team football. Despite making 53 appearances and winning five trophies in 18 months in the French capital, Cabaye has primarily appeared off the bench, something that has adversely affected his international ambitions - and he was even dropped from a couple of recent France squads. The midfielder is therefore exploring his options and it appears a move to south London with Palace could be on the cards. Cabaye signed for Newcastle from Lille for £4.5 million in the summer of 2011 and went on to make 93 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 18 goals. A firm fans€™ favourite in the North East - he was dubbed €œDreamboat€ by supporters - the Toon faithful would love nothing more than to see him return.
