Is This Arsenal's Greatest XI?

CB. Tony Adams

What type of ultimate Arsenal team would this be if it didn't have the legendary Tony Adams in the line-up? The world sacrilege sounds appropriate, considering Adams lived the dream of every football fan. In fact, his career is almost like the plot of a Hollywood sports flick.

A born and bred Arsenal supporter, Adams was signed to the team's youth academy and eventually made his debut as a 17-year-old. Four years later, he was the captain of the team.

Despite his incredibly young age and the responsibility placed upon his shoulders, Adams didn't shy away from his duties as a leader. In fact, he helped guide the squad to a number of titles throughout the 14 years he had the captain's armband.

He was a ferocious competitor whose defensive work earned him plenty of plaudits. And even though centre backs aren't known for their technical ability Adams was far from a donkey when he was on the ball. He loved nothing more than scoring important goals, banging in screamers against Everton and Tottenham that fans still reminisce about to this day.

Even with a stint in jail and a long battle with halting his career briefly, his performances and desire to win games never wilted and for that he'll go down as Arsenal's greatest ever captain.
